In cell culture avoiding contamination is of paramount importance. Positive displacement dispensers can have advantages over air-cushion pipettes and pipet controllers both in terms of preventing contaminations and reproducibility of results.
Benefits of positive displacement dispensers in cell culture are manifold. A major advantage is complete aerosol prevention as the sample is hermetically sealed in the tip. This ensures that no contamination of the instrument or cross-contamination between different samples will occur. In addition, keeping the cells in suspension by inverting the Combitip is very easy. And dispensing them into the target vessel more quickly can lead to better reproducibility.
